Approach to using Extra Sheets with an ESA50 form was created by Cemily
Hi I know I can use extra sheets when filling in an ESA 50, & that they need to have my name DoB & NI# on & be securely attatched But we’re unsure of the best approach with a long complicated submission for 3 fluctuating conditions. (it totalled about 5k words last time)
So in summary; the pros & cons of whether to split the answer between box & extra sheets or all on the extra sheets.
I know I might be over thinking this but I am absolutely terrified of them & just want to get it right, so I really do appreciate your patience & thoughts
- write what we can in the boxes on the actual form & the write “continued on page _ of extra sheets’ at the bottom of each box, for the rest. But with this approach I worry that they don’t bother to read the extra sheets.
- Write only the name/list of conditions/GP name etc on the form and then for each activity question, fill in the tick boxes, but then in the boxes where you’re asked to explain in more detail simply write “sorry not enough room to explain fully - please see page _ of attached extra sheets”. And then give the whole of the answer on the extra sheets – clearly labelled with the question number and name. We had to do that for the PIP review form recently as all the boxes were so ridiculously tiny.
But with that approach I worry that writing no actual answers on the form might be ‘frowned upon’ somehow or be likely to get up an assessor’s nose, especially for the 1st (Mobility) question which is larger.
So in summary; the pros & cons of whether to split the answer between box & extra sheets or all on the extra sheets.

Hi Cemily
You're overthinking it. Please try not to worry. I have used both methods you describe -and both have been successful and accepted. Do what feels right for you.
My personal favourite is to tick the boxes and then write "See additional page X" You don't have to apologise for not having enough room. Only give them what they need, and that is where to find the answer!
