PIP supersession was created by JaneC
Hi - I am helping someone who was on PIP (enhanced DL and standard mobility) from April 2021. In April 2024 the award was removed based on new health assessment report. At tribunal the award was reinstated as the judge said that the latest report was not superior merely because it was newer.
The decision also noted:
'we have decided to reinstate the award for a period of 2 years, rather than a longer period. This reflects the fact there is evidence suggesting the appellant's circumstances may have changed since the flawed supersession decision, including loss of employment and potential deterioration in her mental health. A time-limited award will ensure that her needs are reassessed in due course by the Secretary of State, allowing for proper consideration of any changes in her circumstances while providing her with security and support in the immediate term.'
They have received a letter from the DWP saying the award will end in April 2026, but have not been sent a review form. The implication was they would need to do a new PIP application - is this correct or should they ask for a supersession? Has anyone had experience of this - am anxious that a new application may remove the award, or leave them without the award for a period of time while it is being processed and the conditions have not gone away or improved.
Any advice welcome.

Hi JaneC,
I think all you need to do is to contact DWP either now or maybe in very early 2026, and state that the current PIP is ending in April and can a renewal form be sent out. If DWP say no, ring again, and follow up with a letter to confirm. I don't think the lack of renewal letter is significant, I suspect renewals are dealt with in a different office.
However if there is a problem, send in a letter well before the end date, eg January 2026, and again explain the situation and need for break. Confirm that disability is same)worse etc. If you like you could also include a paragraph on each descriptor like as if filling out the form. Include Tribunal Decision and med reports. Chances are DWP will just send out a new form then. But, if they don't and they don't renew the benefit, I think that decision could be appealed.I think that will preserve the continuity of claim.
I hope this helps.
