PIP review decision letter was created by tillyboo
After recieving my PIP text last your review is done. The letter came today. They have kept the same award level enhanced for both, but from Nov 2025 until Nov 2028 & expect to hear from them about Nov 2027 to go through all this misery again.
I normally have 4 year awards & was hoping now I would be given either 6 yrs or longer, not less.

Can I appeal this length of time award? As my award wasnt due to run out until March 2026, so really its 18 months awarded or there abouts.

I'm 62 my conditions will not improve, my GP letter said as much, as much as I'm pleased to keep the same enhanced on both, its the length of time I'm really not happy with.

I did wonder why my review only took 2 months & 2 weeks for a decision. It feels more like an extension to my existing award, than a proper award.

I know I should feel pleased, instead I'm thinking I only have 2 years before going through this again.

I've never appealed a PIP decision before, what happens if I do that, do they stop paying etc until the appeal is done? I wouldnt even know how to be with an appeal.

Any advice welcomed, TIA

Hi Tillyboo

You can't actually 'appeal' the length of an award, but you can write to them and say that while you are happy with the enhanced PIP award, you would like them to reconsider the length of the award .

You can't argue that your award wasn't due to run out until March 2026, because any new award always supercedes the previous one, and the process for your review was very short (though it probably didn't feel that way to you).

Focus on the evidence from your GP that your condition is not going to improve, and reviewing it so early puts unnecessary stress on you. We have had a couple of members who have managed to get their awards extended by a further two years from the original decision, but award lengths overall have been shortened for most people. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't try - just don't use the word 'appeal' in your letter. They won't stop your money - the worst that can happen is that they refuse to extend the award length.

Hi Bis Many thanks for your reply.

Can I check a few things:

When you say dont use the word appeal in the letter, how would I word it? Ie do I say "Thank you for keeping my enhanced levels, but would like a longer award time, due to my conditions not improving & the stress caused during review, can you please reconsider making the award time longer?" Would that be enough or would more detail be needed?

Also would another GP letter supporting me in asking for the award time to be lengthened help?

Finally, would this cause me to be physically reassessed if I sent in a letter regarding the award length?

I checked the points on this award & its exactly the same as my previous award which was paper based , the only difference is an actual written decision was given on my previous award with a persons name at the end , where as this award just says award given on information recieved signed from Case Manager. No other information, no name of who reviewed me.

Thank you.

Hi tillyboo

As BIS stated in her post, you do not want to ask for an Appeal as they may look at your whole award again.

If your condition has not changed as is not expected to change in the near future then there is no harm in asking the decision maker to review the length of the award, you could ask them to consider a light touch review as your condition will not improve.
