UC, LPA and Money/Jobcentre was created by Tavvy
Hi Everyone, I am receiving UC for mental health in the LRWCA(Sp?) group. My mother is 85, is housebound and was diagnosed Alzheimer's last year. She cannot get the the bank or shops.
We have just obtained an LPA for both Finance/property and Health/welfare. We live separately, both in council properties.
We get HB to pay our rents. My mother has appointed me as her representative on the LPAs. She has just over £6000 in savings. I have under £6000 in savings. I'm going to open a second account at her bank and use the LPA to get a bank card for her account so that I can can get money for her for food and bills. Currently I am giving her money from my benefits.
Will either of us be penalised and do I need to inform the jobcentre please? And what do I need to do and say when I approach the jobcentre please? I'm really scared and lost. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Tavvy

Your question is outside the remit of the forum.

As your mother is over state pension age, she can have savings up to £10k before it affects any means tested benefits (tariff income).

We would advise you to seek specialist advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation: advicelocal.uk where they can take all your circumstances into consideration when giving you advice.
