Hi, in receipt of PIp and recently had a ten year award thanks to benefits and work. I now also have a state pension. I will be moving into a private rental soon. Will I be able to get help with rent and council tax? If so how will the rent be paid to the estate agent handling the rental? Would it be paid to my bank account? Thank you
Your rent will be subsidised by Housing Benefit at the LHA rate administered by your local council's Housing Benefit department. Your local council will also have its own Council Tax Reduction Scheme. So you would be advised to contact them about help with your rent and Council Tax. There is an exception which would be if you had a partner who was under State Pension age.
