I reach state pension age on 2 February 2026. I have not been migrated to UC, but a recent change in capital has meant that I am now only entitled to New Style ESA (I have lost the income- related part of ESA). As the income-related part was a 'passport' to Housing Benefit, I may have to claim universal credit up until 1 February to get the housing element of UC ( I will automatically have the New Style ESA deducted from UC). Does anyone know if I will get any transitional protection when claiming UC?
As your Legacy Benefits have stopped owing as you say to excess capital then your route to Transitional Protection has also closed. If you still have a large amount of capital your entitlement to UC maybe very small. Have you tried using a Benefits calculator such as Entitledto.co.uk ?
Let me know how you get on. David
