Universal credit and the need to constantly be sure I’m doing everything right was created by Chrystal
Hi there
I have a claim for universal credit , and have done for a couple of years , my daughter was in receipt of dla and transferred to pip a year ago , universal credit know this as I informed them when I made the claim and I recieved and still do the child element and child disability premium of universal credit . I told them when she changed to pip
However I just read something somewhere and it’s made paranoid , I’m her appointee she is 17 can’t manage money due to a learning disability she’s still in full time education ,as her appointee for her pip this money goes into my account and is spent on her and I keep a record of how where it is spent
I always report everything because I don’t want to ever do any thing wrong , now I’m worried that should I have said it goes into my account as I genuinely didn’t think I needed to as her child dla always was paid to me on behalf of her
Should I have or do I need to tell them her pip money is paid into my account even though they know she gets pip and I receive child disability premium
Thanks in advance

Hi Chrystal
The payment of your daughter's Benefits into your own bank account is the correct procedure. The DWP expects that the disabled person's Benefits are paid into the Appointee's bank account.

Thank you ,
I’m aware that this is the right procedure , I think I want clear , however as I am in receipt of universal credit myself for me and I have told them she gets pip and I receive the child disability element of universal credit for her my question is , should I be also be telling universal credit it gets paid into my account as I’m her appointee , will they view this as my money and I do keep records of where the money goes , should I say I have my daughters money paid into my account sorry

Hi Chrystal
There is no obligation for you to keep records or give further information to the DWP.
The DWP don't investigate Appointeeships unless there is information that the system is being abused and usually communicated to them by a third party.

Hi Chrystal
It is not a problem. It would be more a problem if the money didn't go into your account.
