I would like to start to process of applying for PIP. I have seen the extensive list of conditions that PIP covers.

My question is, what do you do if you have various conditions listed? For example, I have ADHD, and was going to initially apply regarding the ADHD difficulties. But I'm also diagnosed with depression and anxiety, which are common comorbidities when it comes to having ADHD.

When filing out the forms and being assessed, can I put that I struggle with various things that PIP covers, or can the assessment only be one thing? ADHD, anxiety, depression, etc?

Hi Emily

Make sure that you have a look at the Guide to PIP Claims and Reviews, as this will walk you through the entire process of applying for PIP and suggest the best way to answer each of the questions. benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/pip. Do not be put off by the size of the guide - it is comprehensive.

When applying for PIP, you should put all your conditions/disabilities on the one application. Many claimants have co-morbidities or more than one unrelated disability.

Thank you. I wasn't sure if they only considered one condition at a time, the one that is most troublesome, for example.

Hi Emily

They are not so interested in the condition/s themselves, but how the symptoms impact your daily life and/or mobility as per the specific PIP criteria. It isn't even always obvious what someone's 'main condition' is if they have multiple disabilities. So where you are asked to list your medical conditions - your ADHD will be there and your depression and anxiety (and anything else). Then when you are answering the questions you mention how the different conditions impact each question. eg cooking a meal - you may have difficulties, concentrating, (ADHD, depression). motivation to cook (depression), impulsivity with safety issues (ADHD), cutting meat and vegetables (ADHD), cooking without support (anxiety). By the way - I only give that as a rough example - not because it necessarily applies to you. I just give it as an example of things you might mention depending on how your conditions impact on you. There are good sample answers in the guide.
