I am writing this on behalf of a friend. His health conditions have got worse and last year he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He is on Universal Credit LCW and has asked for a re-assessment to go onto LCRW. On enquiring what was taking so long, (he asked in February 2025) and has been informed in his journal that it can take from one to five years. Are DWP just intending to let people die? Any thoughts on this?
There are changes to the health element of UC in April 2026. Here is the advice from the New section of BenefitsandWork:- "People who are terminally ill will receive the LCWRA element at the higher level. This means a person who is suffering from a progressive disease and whose death could reasonably be expected within the next 12 months. These people will have provided a special form called an SR1 from their medical professionals to confirm this is the situation".
