UC Claim Closed Deprivation of Capital

Hi

I claimed UC with transitional protection and LCWRA.

I received an inheritance amount in mid October which took my balances over 16000. I paid debts on the same day which brought balance below 16000.

I reported this to UC and asked how to upload proof and was told to update the journal when my balance changed but wait to upload proof until it was asked for.

I have been reporting every 3 days since. I have purchase items for the house, paid bills, vets, food, clothes and regular normal expenses.

I was asked to attend a jobcentre to provide paper statements. Asked in journal for reasonable adjustment to upload instead. This wasn't answered so had to attend appointment with my friend taking the day off to come with me.

UC messaged in journal saying what I'd taken in wasn't enough so they sent upload links. I uploaded the information requested and explained what I'd spent the money on.

I recieved a reduced UC payment for October - November assessment period in November on normal payment date.

Today (16 Dec) recieved journal note that my UC is closed due to deprivation of capital.
The date of claim closure was 6 Dec. The balance hardly changed between 3-6 december. My claim periods are 6th to 5th of each month.

I recieved no payment for November to December assessment period UNTIL today, when I recieved one by Faster Payments after the claim was closed, which was reduced due to the capital I have.

I've asked for an explanation for decision so a claim manager will either phone me or message on the journal by tomorrow evening. I can't input into the journal as the claim is closed.

So after I have heard from the claim manager what can I do?
1. A rapid reclaim and how to do that
2. Mandatory reconsideration - can I do that as well as a rapid reclaim? Or if I reapply does that mean I can't ask for a mandatory reconsideration?
3. Do I make a new claim instead using the link on the journal?
4. Why have I recieved UC payments for the assessment periods then had the claim closed?

Thank you for any help.

Hi thank you for your response.

The journal and pdf letter I Recieved both say

Your claim has been closed

Your Universal Credit has stopped

What you should do next
The quickest way to check if you can get Universal Credit again is to make a new claim. You can make a new claim on your homepage.

Ask us to explain
If you disagree with our decision, you can ask us to explain. You can also ask for a written explanation.

Ask us to reconsider
You can also ask us to look at the decision again. This is called a 'mandatory reconsideration'.

I've asked for an explanation which they said will be give today so was wanting to know

How to do A rapid reclaim and how to do that?

Hi Pukdog

I would advise you to complete the following Mandatory Reconsideration form
assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6...sion-made-by-dwp.pdf
and post it to :-
Freepost DWP UNIVERSAL CREDIT FULL SERVICE
You don't need a postcode.
You should be able to make a rapid reclaim by using the link on the Journal. But they make close claim because of the excess capital decision in the previous claim.

As far as the previous payments are concerned, the DWP say:-

'In the event of a closed claim, claimants can still see their previous journal entries and payment statements in a read-only format.
If a claimant opens a new claim, this read-only access will no longer be accessible to the claimant. However, if a claimant, who has had a previous claim closed, needs to access their previous statements or their journal, a case manager can access them on their behalf and provide them with any information they might require"

Let me know how you get on.
David
