Good afternoon,
I am my son's appointee. (I have posted about this before). He is in the process of transferring from DLA to PIP. Just before Christmas, I was contacted by the health assessment firm saying they wanted to book me in for a call. They said this wasn't a full assessment.
The call went ahead and it seemed to go quite well. In fact the assessor actually said she was going to recommend him for an award.
I hadn't heard from the DWP to say they had the report so I've just called them. They said they were waiting for the report which was a bit unusual, given that it was 3 weeks ago.
I then called the health assessment firm and was told that the assessor has recommend my son have a full assessment! I am really shocked as that wasn't what she said on the call at all.
I'm now really concerned. The firm said I would now have to 'wait' until I got a letter about an appointment.
Can I ask if you've come across this before? Can I insist that it's a phone assessment with myself? My son won't speak to them or engage in a face to face appointment.

You are the second member to have a similar problem with the DWP wanting to speak to DLA to PIP claimants when they have an appointee. As his appointee, you are able to speak on his behalf, and if it were me, I would politely say that you will be speaking on his behalf. They often say there is a safeguarding issue, which is complete nonsense, and you have to be strong enough to stand up to them. The whole point of the appointee system is for the appointees to manage the claimant's benefit business for them, including assessments. You should have some paperwork on the role of the appointee, and I am sure there is something on there that you will be able to quote to them.
