Hi were not both in receipt of UC I am and my husband claims his state pension they said we had to do it this way because we are a mixed aged couple.

Ok, so basically we claim it, they award us and say we are eligible for the extra bedroom entitlement, then they say but we don't get anything extra, because I claim UC ? non of this makes any sense to me what is the point I just think they're using this Transitional protection to suit themselves, at no point has anyone said I will not be entitled to any additional benefit because of TP.

Hi Lynz
The Government states that no claimant will be worse off claiming UC than claiming ESA, at that moment in time, which is true. Unfortunately ,whenever there is an uprate in your benefit entitlement, this will affect your TP until your TP goes to zero.
