I recently informed UC of receiving an inheritance which took me over £16,000. During same assessment period I paid off some debt which took me below £16,000.
My question is do UC include benefit payments as savings as potentially these could take me again over the £16,000 limit during an assessment period ?
Many Thanks in Advance.

Hi Brian1888
If you don't spend your monthly UC payment within 30 days and then add it to your savings pot which then exceeds £16k, your UC claim will be closed.
It should not be difficult to spend it as for instance gas and electricity suppliers are keen to take larger payments during the winter to shore up the account.

Put deposits down on some holidays/ buy any household goods you need. I got a Pension lump some time ago, and that’s what I did.
I didn’t randomly spend money, I replenished things that were old and treated myself to a lovely holiday.

Hi Again
I informed UC that my savings had increased but still under £16,000.
I was receiving reduced UC payments.
The reason for increase was ourely down to receiving NS ESA and ADP payments in the assessment period.
I believe i have spent these payments on the usual essentials plus help associated with my disability.
UC have again reduced payments due to savings increase.
Is this correct?
Thanks Again

Hi Brian1888
We would need to know your total savings and how much the DWP are deducting.

Brian, we normally buy new stuff too. Due to moving into a smaller place, our bed, & suite were too big to fit comfortably.
Angela, wouldn’t they query the holz? I know we’re entitled, but many wouldn’t be at all happy with it. I seriously considered putting a deposit down on a cruise, as you need never leave the ship ….
