do I need to reapply for Council Tax Reduction if moving from IR ESA to UC?

Our son went from paying nothing to £110 a month. A lot of local authorities have used migration from ESA to UC as a way to squeeze money out of the most vulnerable.

I agree with you and now these divisive Councils are starting to get their comeuppance. The High Court declared last week that Council Reduction schemes which treat the UC Transitional Element as surplus income are unlawful.
Garden Court Chambers representing the claimant state :-
"In a judicial review claim brought against Three Rivers District Council by two of its residents, the High Court has this week declared that the local authority’s scheme for calculating low income residents’ council tax liability unlawfully discriminated against them. The decision – R (Bleakley) v Three Rivers AC-2025-LON-004451 – was handed down on Monday (2 February 2026)."
