Letter Received from DWP was created by newcastle1949
Hi everyone
Hope you are doing ok.
Just thought i would share!!
I have been on CB ESA in the support group for over 16 years, thankfully coming to the end of my ESA journey as i receive my State Pension at the beginning of April.
Yesterday i received a letter which read
Dear Mrs xxx
Before we can decide how much allowance you are entitled to we need more information
We need to see your birth certificate
If you cannot send it please tell us
Your date of birth
where you were born
your full name
your fathers full name
your mothers full name when you were born
any other names your mother has used
Please send everyhing we have asked for within 7 days, if you delay you may not get any allowance.
Never have i received a letter like this before, so here we go trying to get through on the phone, surprisingly got through after about 10 minutes, very pleasant lady, explained receiving the letter, letter was dated 3 Feb so that was my 7 days up on the day of receipt, said i am only due 2 more ESA payments explaining i was going to receive SP beginning of April, she didn't know why it had been sent out but would send a message to the back office, i said quite intimidating letter, explained i was not prepared to send my birth certificate, but she took answers to all of the questions they asked in the letter and again said i really don't know why they have sent this!!!
Just wondering if anyone else has received anything like this and the DWP's thought process behind sending it, out?
Best Wishes

Hi newcastle1949
You should receive a letter from the pension service inviting you to claim your state pension, you usually get this letter 3 months before your state pension age. At the same time depending on your circumstances you may also be entitled to claim guarantee pension credit.
We would advise you to seek specialist advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation: advicelocal.uk where they can take all your circumstances into consideration when giving you advice.
