taxable benefits was created by Rox
hi!

I am wondering if you could help me with this query...

I fill out self-assessment forms each year with inland revenue (as I used to be self-employed) but now I do this for the sake of paying class 2 NICs for my pension and because I am in a partnership.

This is my first time to do a self-assessment form whilst on benefits. A question came up about taxable benefits. From my understanding to this point my benefits have not been taxable because it seems UC is not taxable and incapacity benefit is not taxable until the 29th week and mine was for under 29 weeks. Im wondering if this sounds correct to you?

For the next tax year though, my LCWRA benefits will probably be taxable. Apparently it is possible to get a form from the DWP, such as a p60, p45 etc which will inform one on this matter. I was wondering if you know something about this? and also if I do need to pay tax on my benefits, what form that might take/how it might look like?

Sorry if questions seem a bit odd, but any help is appreciated? and pls let me know if you need me to clarify these questions better?

Thank you so much
Sarah

Hi Rox

You are correct some benefits are taxable and some are not.

Taxable benefits include; widowed parent's allowance, carer's allowance, NS ESA, state pension, there are others.

We would advise you to seek specialist advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation: advicelocal.uk where they can take all your circumstances into consideration when giving you advice.
