PIP Assessor did not prepare was created by Sujeet
Hello,
I had my telephone PIP Assessment call on January 26th. I did everything I was instructed to do to be prepared to receive the call. The assessor called me and said " I will need to end the call because I need to prepare and read through your application and the evidence you have sent to us. I will call you back in 30 minutes please wait by your phone."
I had submitted approximately 60 pages of relevant medical evidence from my GP, Paramedics Reports, hospital tests results, diagnosis, Hepatology Consultant letters, prescription medications from the NHS app and GP and physiotherapy reports. I find it unbelievable that the assessor was physically able to read the entirety of my application and evidence including an impact letter within 30 minutes. The medical reports stated clearly I have been diagnosed with a stage e brain disorder that causes many things one of which is impaired cognitive function .That I have been diagnosed with severe depression and prescribed Mirtazapine as an antidepressant.( these are just 2 examples I'll share for the purposes of this post requesting assistance with my mandatory reconsideration). The point I received for cognitive function were 0. The points I received for depression or any mental health issues were 0. I believe fully this is a huge disservice to me.
Important to note that I was told by the assessor that it would take 6-8 weeks for a decision to be made. From the day of my assessment call, January 26th 2026 I received my decision letter dated February 3rd. That adds up to 5 working days.
I need help to draft a letter stating this as a part if my appeal. Thank you kindly

Hi Sujeet

I'm sorry you find yourself in this position. I'm sorry it has taken us so long to reply. Firstly you need to ring the DWP and ask for a copy of the assessment report - it is called a PA4. This will explain how they came to their decision.

We can't actually tell you how to write your response. Don't waste time on how quickly you got your response. It will make absolutely no difference in changing how they scored you. What you want to do is point out the mistakes they made, such as ignoring your impaired cognitive function from the brain disorder. (You are certainly not the only member of Benefits and Work who has had brain disorders ignored. One member recently had success at a Tribunal for his mother after the DWP had ignored her difficulties.

It isn't easy to fight them, but if you can, do so. You can say they did not read all your evidence, but you need to repeat why your evidence fits the specific PIP criteria. Go through each question and whatever they scored you, say why you think they were wrong, repeat the difficulties you have, point to medical evidence you sent in and say what you think you should have scored.

Because time is moving on, ring the DWP and tell them that you want to put in for a Mandatory Reconsideration, and it will be late. DO NOT, DO NOT allow them to bully you into doing it over the telephone. If you do that, you will have no idea of whether the call handler is accurately recording what you say, and with your impaired brain function, you may not get the opportunity to say important things. Tell them you will send in your Mandatory Reconsideration, and the reason for it being late is that you did not understand the system, and you have had no assistance, and your condition makes it difficult to do this.

You can look at the Guide to PIP Appeals, which will tell you how to put in for a Mandatory Reconsideration.
