UC to Pension with other benefits was created by JayneT13
My husband is 66 this year with his pension starting in September, we currently have a joint Universal Credit claim, I also get the Limited Capability for Work-Related Activity element as well as getting Personal Independence Payment, my husband is my full time carer and receives Carers Allowance too.

We understand that my husband’s Universal Credit element will cease and be replaced by his pension, we believe that his Carers Allowance payment will cease but he will still have an underlying entitlement to CA which means he can still get help with paying council tax and will be entitled to a higher amount of means-tested pension credit, is this correct or does he have to re-apply for CA?

We don’t know what happens to my part of the claim for Universal Credit, will I have to make another claim from scratch? We only went through the protracted process beginning in November 2024 and wasn’t finalised until May 2025, I was recovering from a heart attack throughout the process and the stress of having to do it all again is having a detrimental effect already. We don’t know what the change will mean to us financially either, any help/information on what to expect would be very welcome.

Hi JayneT13

You have mentioned Pension Credit but you can only receive this if you are both over state pension age. If not your husband will get the UC Carer's element and you will receive the UC LCWRA element. You will not have to make a new UC claim.
Every Council has its own Council Tax Reduction scheme and you will need to contact them to find out the effects. You can use a Benefits calculator such as Entitledto.co.uk to anticipate them.
