Appointment worry over nothing? was created by roadrunner
last week I reported a change in circumstances in saving catagory because I recieved a backdated payment for pip under 3k. I know it is disregarded for 12 months. I included backpayment in the total savings but on another page there was an option to declare benefits payments received for backdates which i declared. Before the backpayment I was just around 7k total. it was 8k a year ago and they have been deducting on that basis. i have not updated for a year as it never increased just slowly went down 1k over the year. Now I have been asked to come to jobcentre for an 20min appointment but only states it is because of change in capital. They have not asked for statements. I have asked in journal for a telephone appointment and willing to send anything they need. Can they insist i attend? - I am very anxious about this and cannot get social support in time or anyone to go with me.

I am also worried about it triggereing a wca as I have been awarded pip and see it as my health has worsen. Will I need to send fit notes if they want a new wca? or just fill a new form and wait? I am in uc support group equivalent. im I worrying too much? Advise appreciated

Hi roadrunner

If you are unable to attend the Jobcentre due to your disabilities then you can request a Home Visit.
It is unusual that they have not asked for statements and I would query this.
It is HAAS that administers the WCA and they have nothing to do with the local Jobcentre, so I would not worry at all about this triggering a WCA.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi, update. Apparently I triggered the change in capital declaring my pip backdated payment and the new amount needed to be reviewed and this required to see the real pip letter (not an electronic copy or proof on a bank statement) dates that the backdated payment covered. I also had to supply 3 months of bank statements across all acounts to show the amount in total savings declared.
On a side note, as I am on a means tested benefit i.e UC and pip, I was told if my savings went up or down I would have to declare it and that would trigger another appointment to show how I spent my savings even if i do this every assessment period. So for example if I paid for therapy, the transaction on a bank statement does not matter, they want to see a receipt describing the service. Is this correct, so every month I can now expect a uc journal telling me I got an appointment at jobcenter . What are peoples experience of spending their savings on a means tested benefit? What if i spent all the money received in an assessment period so the savings amount remained the same, would that mean I dont have to declare anything for the approriate period it is due because if so, whats the difference as i have still spent it but as there is no increase or decrease they are not interested? thoughts please how to navigate this as I hate to have to go to the jobcenter every month defending myself in person. I thought digital was meant to make things easier. Thanks

Hi roadrunner

I don't think there is a rule that everyone whose savings fluctuate around the £6k limit has to attend the Jobcentre with statements. Though it will be interesting to hear of other members'experiences.

I migrated to UC resulting my current status as being in NS ESA support group and UC LCWRA, plus PIP. Few questions come to mind...

1. If i go over 16k savings will my NS ESA stop and if not when I reapply for UC (when savings dip below 16k) will my support group status in NS ESA automatically mean i am put into LCWRA without a WCA?

2. Also not sure if anyone knows but will the UC rates be the new post April2026 (lower health element) or revert back to the higher health element rates.

3. I do all my spending on credit cards and my bank statements simply show the credit card payments. Will I ever be asked to show my credit card statements? I ask because I am getting PIP now, I want to start arranging help I need and was wondering whether to keep it on the credit card as i can then spread out the repayments over several assessment periods without it appearing like a big spend (id be paying for a block of ten sessions in one go) or just keep it separate and just do straight debit so it shows on the bank statement in one go and risk another appointment to the jobcenter to justify unnecessarily. Thank you

Hi Roadrunner

To answer your questions:-
1) No your NS ESA will not stop however large an amount of savings you accumulate.
Yes, If you have LCWRA or Support Group status in ESA then that transfers over to a new UC claim and

2) if you are receiving payments of NS ESA then you will be eligible for the old full LCWRA element.

3) I am not qualified to give advice about credit card use. However as far as saving and debt is concerned the DWP only will look at the savings and make no allowances for the debt.
