Do I have to submit bank statements?

I'm on UC (what was income related esa support group) and PIP. Been on them for a while.
Been hearing that dwp can ask for bank statements, whilst I have nothing to hide and zero savings I really don't want to do this. I don't mind sending proof of amount in my one account but I have a deep distrust of them after traumatic assessments so I don't want to send them anything more than I have to.
Is it true they now want statements when I'm reassessed?
Do I have to send them or can I submit proof of amount in my account only (that over several months or years of needed). I don't want them to say because I purchased a coffee in 2017 that I'm not ill!
Thank you

Hi NikiB

I'm afraid that the DWP has the right to ask for copies of bank statements and they will only accept those, not anyone telling them the amount they have in their account. Not everyone gets asked for bank statements.
