Hi,

I have been aske dot support a lady who has progress MS (right sided paralysis) and ahs had recent hip surgery. She is in nursing home to recuperate and for safeguarding reasons related to Domestic abuse.

I assume her PIP will stop after 28 days and this will impact any related elements of her joint UC award?

She has an outstanding mortgage and is a joint owner of the property. She has been working with her Social Worker and identified supported living accommodation that would enable her to flee her abusive husband and live in a specially adapted home with care.

I am unsure how her benefits will be impacted. I assume she will let them know it is a change of circs for uc and claim as a single claimant. However, will she receive HB if she owns her own home?

If she makes this move what happens re the joint mortgage (she is still liable for it) and if it is sold? Would she still be able to get UC for a time period ie will it be treated as capital if she is not intending to buy something else with the proceeds.

Sorry for all the questions - Ia m very worried as this is not something we come across very often. Tahnk you all.

Hi fiona

This is a complex multi-faceted enquiry. I note that there is a social worker involved. Have you met the social worker and broached any of these topics ?
