Discovering 16K+ capital/savings.... IOU DWP ? was created by Hh1
Definitely let them know, repeatedly, that claimant wasn't aware his savings, or how they might affect his claim. (I assume this was the case). The DWP certainly don't make these rules explicitly clear to claimants and I think many aren't fully aware of the limits, etc.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi
Yes it is to be expected that the claimant would not be aware of the DWP capital rules as he has been assessed to be lacking mental capacity in awarding the Appointeeship.
As long as the Appointee acts with due diligence then there should be no adverse consequences. Though of course with UC any overpayment ( even if official error ) is recoverable.

im just gathering more info on his accounts at the time of the claim.
He doesnt know how to access historical bank acct stms.
I have sent him instructions on how to do this eg for paypal. This will take him time to understand, if he is well enough due to frequency of seizures.
Hoping to have all facts by the early next week. 🤞🏼

We only got to this point bec he was confused about the 13K saving figure DWP were deducting against. He didnt remember having 13k and if he did what happened to it.
This makes sense bec our mum managed all cost of living and household expenses , so he's never understood the costs involved.
