Report changes to education? was created by LB
I am seeking clarity on whether completion of a course needs to be reported to the DWP in relation to my ESA claim.
ESA status: I have submitted the WCA50 questionnaire, am receiving the assessment rate but am awaiting confirmation of next steps for new style (national insurance contribution based) ESA.
Education status: I just received confirmation that I passed a government funded, part time, home-based, self paced TDUK-Level 2 Certificate course. It was slated as requiring 5-10 hours of work per week over 6-12 weeks. Due to physical and mental symptoms, I really struggled to complete it. It required my full daily effort, many extensions and accommodations (which was really disappointing as I had hoped it would give me some confidence in my ability but it just confirmed how challenging I'm finding things).
I want to avoid contacting the DWP unless absolutely necessary. I fear they may see completion of a course as proof of capacity to work when no employer could reasonably be asked to support my current level of output.
Differing advice re reporting changes to starting or stopping education:
Advice from gov.uk makes no distinction between income based and new style ESA when it comes to reporting changes (www.gov.uk/employment-support-allowance/change-of-circumstances)
but Citizen's Advice suggests changes to education must only be reported for income-related ESA (www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/sick-...a-reporting-changes/).
Please can anyone definitively advise on whether Citizen's Advice is correct here and I do not have to report the course as a change in circumstances?
Thanks so much in advance for your time.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi LB
Yes Citizens Advice are correct and just do nothing.
The information on the gov.uk page is false and the person who wrote it should be sacked. It says:
"You must report if you, anyone who lives with you...gets pregnant". So you would need if you had a lodger or a Ukrainian guest under this guidance to ask them about pregnancy. Unfortunately there are other examples of nonsense on gov.uk
