HMRC Compliance was created by paulscotthicks
Has anyone any experience of the compliance service at HMRC?
In particular a first claim for when an initial claim for child and working tax credit is claimed
The amount of detail that is being requested is quite scary as it seems every thing is being investigated.

we got that letter a couple of years ago with a different number to renew our claim on, I telephoned and it was an answer phone no one got back to us I called the normal number told them I had tried the compliance number.. they said never mind renewed our claim and we never heard again...
the year after i made a mess of security and was told i needed to visit local tax office to reset security on computer went in showed passport and water bill I asked about the letter she said it was to make sure people with strange claims where ok ??? she looked at my records for me to see why I had been picked and she said it was because they knew I had decent income but for tax credit use I had nil
as all my income dla and pensions was disregarded .. other example given was people with more than one wife !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! she said the unit covers a lot of things
did you know you can go in local tax office and use free phone to call tax credits unit and save on 0845 calls too

Just thought the other people who get it are single parents if they suspect you of having a partner

Well due the the currents obsession with fraud all areas of government spending are being clawed over. Dare I ask the kind of info they were requesting then? Was it above the usual kind of thing that you'd be asked for by any other benefit dept?
They end up credit checking all this info anyway so be aware of that when you send them your info.

Thanks everyone
I think it is for credit checking purposes as you stated
It was water and telephone bills and other things that could be checked against credit agencies
