JSA - Contribution Based was created by Jagtastical
I recently claimed JSA and expected to be entitled to the contribution-based element, as I'd been told by two people I thought would know that I would qualify. Although the on-line claim form didnt seem to distinguish between the contribuition based and income based elements of JSA, I only intended to claim the contribution-based part.
However, I've now received a letter from DWP saying that I dont qualify even for the contribution-based part because the pension I have from my old employer exceeds the amount of JSA which would othewrwise be payable.
Is this correct please?
Grateful for any clarification. Thanks.

We don't normally advise on JSA but I believe any pension income in excess of £50 is deducted £ for £.

Hi J,
JSA is not a benefit that we deal with.
However, as with any benefit, being entitled to Contribution Based, or Income Related, (Means Tested), is not a matter of choice.
A claimant applies for the benefit, and then may be awarded said benefit, but whether it is CB or IR will depend on whether they have the necessary NI Contributions/Credits, or pass a "Means Test".
