Hi I'm so confused , how do they work out who has to attend a medical for esa', I filled in the form with help from this site, attended a medical then put in wrag. I have appealed the dr has given me a letter saying I can't walk more than 50 metres without severe pain, l was sent a letter saying the decision would be looked at again if they can't change it then on to appeal. I am so down making my ms worse. Lily
ATOS carry out what is called a pre-board check, when they receive the ESA50 back from a customer.
They will review the ESA50 and any evidence attached to it to see whether they can make a recommendation that the claimant meets the criteria for the WRAG, or the Support Group, if they cannot then a medical is scheduled.
For new claims, the percentage who don't need a medical is low, for those who are being transferred from another benefit to ESA, it is much higher.
