Hi i had a phone call on tues afternoon 14th august from a doctor and he left a message on my answer phone saying he will call back in the evening whic he did and said is it ok to visit you tomorrow afternoon, well he came about 1.15 and left at 2.40 the assessment was different from my 2001 doctors visit in that he first asked me to sign to say this is my driving licence and the time he had arrived.
As i was in my reclined armchair he asked many questions about what do you do during the day and night and a strange thing he asked if he could touch me and had a list saying can you feel this better or worse 1 and 2 in the legs and arms which i began to get confused with as he was fast,i also told him my spinal spondylosis was x rayed in the 90s and i was told by my consultent the worn discs causing my problems which have now got worse and this doctor said you cannot tell worn discs by x ray you can only tell this by mri scan well in the 90s i had to wait two years for physio as the service was terrible then let alone mri.
Then when i said closing my hand i had pain and could not for a full fist he said you held that pen ok when i came in.
I was very angrey at this after he had gone i keep't thinking this over and thought what a bloody cheek.

A simple flat plate x-ray can show the effects of a herniated disc. Long before the advent of MRI's or CT scans they used x-rays. The radiologists would look for changes in the stature of the vertebrae. So if a vertebrae were to be leaning in a certain direction that would be an indication.

If there was a loss of height of a disc then that too would be another indication. A good radiologist can make some very astute diagnostic guesses about what is going on with just x-rays, They are used less today because of the newer technology such as MRI's which do reveal more information.

The one thing that none of these things can tell is if what is gathered as information is always accurate. Some of the things that are revealed could have been there since birth. A correlation between symptoms and diagnostic information is always needed to make an accurate diagnosis.
