DLA Mobility query was created by Anna
I have been on MRC for many years. Just received outcome of recent renewal and stayed on MRC but got no mobility awarded. CAB suggesting I maybe appeal to try and get low rate mobility. Is there anywhere I can see criteria to meet to get Low rate mobility? Really anxious not to loose MRC if I appeal...

Hi a02,

As well as Gordon's good advice, please see the Decision Makers Guide covering AA & DLA, This covers Care and Mobility Components, here :

www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/dmgch61.pdf

DLA mobility component

DLA mobility component - conditions of entitlement, starts at 61251.

Rather lengthy, but may be helpful. :)

Don't worry, there's a lot of information and it can seem intimidating.

Although there are two rates for DLA mobility they are awarded for different reasons.

The lower rate is primarily given to people who have problems going out on their own or to places that they don't know.

The higher rate is given to people who have problems walking.

So the first thing you need to decide is which rate you believe you qualify for, although it is possible to qualify due to both reasons.

If you think you qualify for the lower rate then you want to have a look at our DLA Claims on Mental Health grounds, page 21 onwards.

If you think higher rate mobility is more appropriate then use the Physical Grounds guide. page 22.

If you think that both may be applicable, then in addition to having a look at both of the above you should also have a look at out Claiming DLA on Dual Diagnosis Grounds.

There is also a Giving Persuasive Information About How Far You Can Walk guide further down the list of DLA guides that is useful for HRM.
