Hi,

My previous claim for DLA was all based on mental health grounds and the renewal would be predominantly about mental health aswell.

I have had a physical condition (since puberty) that fluctuates quite a bit and can effect my mobility at times (most recently in the last 4 months), quite severely pain wise for around 5 days in a month, where i can just about manage to get to the toilet, albeit crying in pain and then more moderately to managable for around 6-7 days, were i can move around but uncomfortably so. There is no cure or medication, and pain meds don't even touch the pressure pain. The only thing i can do is purely maintenance (dressing wounds etc).

I will be mentioning this on my renewal, based on the mental health descriptors about managing personal hygiene/washing etc, as because of my mental health i can neglect myself in that department and it throws my physical maintenance regime out of balance and can often make things worse.

Because it has been worse the last 4 months, i have missed important appointments and one of my key workers has stated i should mention this on the DLA form as a physical mobility issue. Although because of it's fluctuating nature, is it worth mentioning it as a physical mobilty issue, and putting in things such as how long i can walk for as it is so hard to quantify.

Cheers,

Aurorablues :)

Hi Ab,

You could do, however I believe that an award of Lower Rate Mobility for mental health issues for guidance or supervision outdoors can be made, where applicable.

This DM Guide may help :

Thanks Bro,

Been having a look through the guides, and can't make much head nor tail atm to be honest, i may need a break.

I just came back from the C.A.B. and had the misfortune of having the most unpleasant and condescending person to help me fill out my form. Many tuts and sighs and abruptness and we managed to fill out one box. She actually made me cry and i nearly walked out. So it will be just me and my partner and the guides from now.

I do currently get low rate mobility for Mental Health grounds. But i asked this C.A.B. lady today whether it as worth putting my condition in as a physical mobility condition (as per my oringinal post) and she said you need to be affected daily to get high rate mobility, and i said i'm not really after high rate, i just want to know whether it was worth the time and effort putting it in the form or not, lots of tuts and sighs later from her and i said i won't bother.

Can i ask another question?

I will be sending letters off to consultants, social workers, gp's etc to ask if they could do me a letter of support for my claim, is there anything specific i should be asking them to put down?

My last claim, they just contatced my GP, but i want as much supporting evidence as possible to go along with this renewal.

Cheers,

Hi Ab,

Any letters of support should refer to any Care and/or Mobility limitations that you suffer as a result of your medical conditions, rather than the just the medical conditions themselves.

This advice given to G.P.'s on how to fill out DLA GPFR by The DWP may give you a better idea :
