I have been invited along for a medical assessment shortly.
first appointment was in a centre some 22 miles away, i called atos and explained that travelling that distance would be a painful issue. i also asked that i wish it to be recorded. i was told there were no appointments available at my nearest centre and would be put on a waiting list. last thursday i received a call from atos saying that my appointment was now on the 8th may at the original centre. when explaining that i wished it to be held at my local centre i was told i could but they don,t have recording machines there. I suffer from Acute gouty arthritis, c.o.p.d, diabetes and depression and recieve dla and care component.
my first assessment was in 2009, went to tribunal and I won, i,m dreading this next one because I know what to expect.
please advise

You may have to make a choice in regard to attending a local ATOS assessment centre and having you assessment recorded, a decision that only you can make, all we can do is make you aware of the facts surrounding the matter.
Despite statements from the Ministers involved, you do not have a legal right to require your assessment is recorded, further, the DWP have stated that there being no recording facility, will not be accepted as Good Cause for a claimant not attending an assessment.
ATOS's normal procedure is to allow a claimant to re-arrange or miss one appointment, a failure to attend a second assessment usually results in their file being returned to the DWP and can lead to a claim being closed, although this is an appealable Decision, it can take months to resolve during which no monies are payable.
