Re applying after losing DLA was created by Bambam
Hi everyone,

I have recently joined on here and could do with a bit of assistance if ok!

I have M.E. and fibromyalgia (for 8 years) I applied for DLA in 2007 and lost at a tribunal, I reapplied again and won and was awarded low rate care and high rate mobility. MY award expired in JUne of last year and when I reapplied for it I wasn't rewarded it again .....it didn't help that I didn't go the tribunal but I was so ill after the first one I attended they panel were rude to me and I didn't want to go through that again....

I AM ready to go through it again, and thought joining here was the best help I could get, my husband has printed the guides for us to go through, is there anything else I need to know, is there anyone here with the same conditions that have been successful?

My health has declined in the last couple of years, my GP confirmed this on his medical report to DWP but it made no difference, I am also really worried about having a medical as I don't have an illness that is visible.....

I'm sorry for all the questions , even after going through this before I still feel very overwhelmed, which in turn makes my health worse, it's a vicious circle...

Thanks for reading its much appreciated

Hi B,

As you may know new claims will now be for PIP and not DLA in some pilot start up areas of the UK, and from June in all parts of the UK :

Personal Independence Payment assessment timeline :

From 8 April 2013 new claims to PIP will be taken in the controlled start area in the North West and part of the North East of England. Postcodes affected are:

BL, CA, CH (except CH5, CH6, CH7 and CH8), CW, DH, DL (except DL6, DL7, DL8, DL9, DL10 and DL11), FY, L, LA (except LA2 7, LA2 8, LA6 2 and LA6 3), M, NE, PR, SR, TS (except TS9), WA and WN.

During this time we will not invite any existing DLA claimants to claim PIP. Nor will we allow claims from DLA recipients who are seeking to make an early application to PIP (“self-selectors”).

From June 2013 :

In addition to the area covered by the controlled start new claims to PIP will be taken in all remaining areas of GB.

We will no longer accept new claims for DLA from anyone aged 16-64, unless they are making a renewal claim from a fixed term DLA award which is due to expire before the end of February 2014. These claimants will re-claim DLA, and where entitlement continues will be invited to claim PIP at a later stage.

You should remember that is is not the medical condition itself that may or may not give an award of DLA, it is the resulting walking limitations and/or care needs.

So you should concentrate on those.
