Facing The Facts. The End of Long Term Sickness? was created by James
Slowly I read on here that concerned Enquirers are slowly waking up to the fact that Long Term Sickness Benefit as we knew it is to all intents OVER.
Facing the facts is less anxiety provoking than an Ostrich approach.
ESA is not as we all are discovering just Incapacity with slight alterations.
People who have been on for 10,20 even 30 years is not uncommon.
Many of us despite struggling on for a few more months or years are going to be forced to a crunch point about our income.
"Getting a job"is not necessarily the awnser.
Yes we are facing an abyss and yes its scary.
OK Its "only"£5000 a year and £10 at Christmas but that was £100 per week.
If that goes a further £5000 Housing Benefit is endangered as Councils will ask well
what are you going to live off if your IB/ESA is reported cut?
So thats a possible £10,000 a year "Paycut"in total .OUCH!
"No money coming in the Rent collector tyring to get in...."
Lets face it some have tried and tried to find a way to make an alternative income but failed.
Others have been too sick to think about what they would do.
The only question I can think of is do Councils automatically get notified of the change in circumstances of Claimants whos ESA is stopped or do they rely on self reporting and am I right in thinking this would make them unable to calculate any future HB as an excuse not to pay it?

The DWP should inform your local authority if you ESA was to stop, however, this does relieve you of the responsibility of doing so yourself.
As I understand it, it is possible to make a zero income claim for Housing Benefit, however, you will need to get face to face advice on this as we do not advise on HB.
