What are the chances of that! Any advice? Thanks.

I have read the advice given in guide about appeals, but am still not sure how much to write in the GL24 form. Since I was not given any reason for their decision it is difficult to know what to say, but I would like to expand on the sample answers if there is any possibility that I will be changed to the support group without having to attend an appeal hearing.

As far as I am aware there are no discreet statistics on the number of appeals revised by the DWP, just an overall figure for appeal, it does happen, it is certainly less than 50%, probably more in the region of 10% but that is just a guess.
You do not have to go into detail on the GL24, for example; if you intend to provide more documentation for the Reconsideration stage, however, if you are not, then you can add additional pages as necessary.
Our ESA Appeal guide has details of how to complete the GL24

and you should have a look at the following FAQs
Is there any risk to challenging a decision?
How long do I have to appeal?
How to submit an appeal

Qualifying for the Support Group

Do I have to attend WFIs while I appeal?

shuai01edwards wrote: Thank you. Sorry, but what is the 'Reconcideration stage' - is it before the appeal hearing? Also can you be denied an appeal, even if you return the GL24 form in time? (I have read all the B&W forms, but they're spread all over the bed and in a mess.)
All appeals include a Reconsideration of the Decision by another DWP Decision Maker, if they do not revise (change) the Decision in your favour, then your papers will be forwarded to the Tribunal Service to be held.
Once the appeal has been passed to the TS it is very rare for it to revised before the hearing.
The DWP can only reject an appeal if it is not properly requested, completing the GL24 will avoid this, or if it is considered to be an invalid appeal, for example a claimant appealing against the time limiting of their ESA(CB), as this is not an appealable decision.
So under normal circumstances, there should be no reason to worry about your appeal being accepted.
