Hi everyone just trying to get my thoughts ready for the next time they send an ESA50 form as they do! As its the new type of form now I am not familiar with it at all.
My son has mental problems and learning disabilities and has been put in the Support Group at reconsideration stage and I think I have read somewhere with this new form that you can only qualify for the Support Group if a definite name of a mental condition is mentioned. e.g. schizophrenia etc. Is this right do we need to get written evidence from the doctor saying a definite named conditon? I am a little confused as you can tell!
No, you do not need to have a specific, named condition in order to be put into the Support Group. However, DWP decision makers do have access to a list of conditions and what can be expected from those. I suppose it might be easier for them to accept a claim if they can turn to this and see that the claimant's reported limitations correlate to this.
The PDF version of the form is here, if you want to have a look at the changes
