The number of people who have been unemployed for more than a year is at its highest level since 1996, Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures show. Prime minister David Cameron repeatedly reminded Labour during Prime Ministers Questions, that Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures show that that the number of unemployed people fell by 57,000 between December 2012 and February 2013.
Over the past year unemployment has fallen across the UK by 72,000 to a total of 2.51 million. However, unemployment rose by 8,000 in Scotland over the last quarter.
David Cameron wasn’t as keen to admit the 32,000 rise in the number of people who have been unemployed for 12 months or more. There are now 915,000 people in the UK who have been out of work for more than 12 months – the highest level for 17 years.
