IB to ESA with other issues was created by R4
Hello,
I am 62 and have been on IB since 1992 after finishing work due to a deterioting condition.
When i finished work I recieved PHI (permanent health insurance) from the company minus my basic IB.
I am also in reciept of DLA at the highest rate for both Mobilty and Care.

My question is:- How will the PHI affect my claim for ESA?

I have had spinal stenosis since being a teenager but wasn't diagnosed until my mid twenties. I had my first spinal decompression in 1975 after which I have had 6 further decompressions in all areas of my spine, the latest included rods and cages fitted to stabalise the area.

In the early 80s I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and on drugs ever since

In 2007 I had two heart attacks which resulted in two ops to insert 6 stents since which i have been on several drugs for that.

Last year I was diagnosed as having Ceoliacs disease

I do hope someone would be able to advise me on how to proceed.

Thank You
R4

I am afraid you will need to get face to face advice in regard to this.

Although substantially the same as IB, the rules for PHI and ESA do have some differences, certainly there are circumstances where a PHI payment will be disregarded and some where it will not, it is also possible that you may be eligible for some sort of Transitional protection.

Unfortunately these are not matters that we can help you with on the forum.

Thank you for that Gordon,
I will certainly seek advice on this matter, however can I proceed with the ESA claim and worry about the PHI later.

If you are completing your ESA50 then I would certainly concentrate on that, but as soon as it is returned you need the get the face to face advice I mentioned.
