Claiming medical travel costs after winning appeal

My ESA was terminated but I appealed and won. The appeal took 5 months to decide. During that time I incurred costs which I would not have had to pay if I had been on ESA. For example costs of a long train journey to a hospital in London, prescription medicines, dental charges, etc.

Can I claim the costs which I incurred during the time the appeal was being processed?

If you were in receipt of Income Related ESA which was then stopped and the restarted by the appeal, then I believe you should be able to recover any prescriptions and dental costs over the period, however, unless there was clear error on the part of the DWP in the processing of your claim, I think it unlikely that you will be able to recover any expenses such as train fares etc.

In regard the prescriptions I would start by contacting your GP practice, they are not directly responsible but may be able to provide you with details of the procedure you need to follow, failing that I think you need to contact your local PCT.

In regard to the other payments, you need to start by making a complaint to the DWP.

Complaining to the DWP
