One thing you can do is to keep a diary of how you are affected, it should help you organise your thoughts and may also help you spot any pattern and also what triggers your problems and how long you are affected after.

One of the things you can consider are any restrictions in your lifestyle you have to implement in order to avoid a more severe episode, any pre-emptive actions that you take.

So just describe it as it is , even if you have to talk about how you are over a period of weeks, the more information you provide the more likely you are to get the correct decision.

Hi Gordon,

The diary sounds like a good idea but I've not the time now, as I've got to get my additional info in asap as my main form has already been handed in with a covering letter to say the rest will follow.

I will try and do the other things you have suggested.

Many thanks

It may still be worth doing the diary if you are able to physically, you could send it in late, or, should the worse happen use it as additional evidence in a Reconsideration.

Hi Gordon, that sounds like a good idea - I need to get the additional info in by this week, I would say really for my peace of mind and continuity of claim. They will have received the claim last Friday, so would you say get the additional info in this week and then send the diary on after that?

Then like you say the diary can always be used at a later date if I have any problems...

Would you let them know that I'm forwarding a diary when I send the additional info? I've let them know that an endocrinologist letter is to be sent and my GP visit is next week 12th and would need to be typed from dictation also, so I can't see them receiving that before the end of the week after. So I don't really want my case to be held up as my transfer assessment period from IB to ESA will commence around the 19th September, so ideally and hopefully if I'm successful with my PIP it will be a massive relief of the pressures of qualifying for ESA.

Having said that if you still get sometime to complete the ESA not sure if it's a month then I could always utilise that time and hopefully have the PIP decision by then.

With all that taken into consideration I'm presuming that they are going to hang fire until they receive my additional info and 2x medical letters that I have informed them I will be sending on.

So could you advise what best to do with the time constraints I've got in terms if completing a diary of sorts.

How long would you recommend the to complete the diary (days). The only problem I foresee with it, is that the period I'm having now isn't my worst so I could potentially give a better impression of how my condition affects me and I feel I need to present my worst. For example, in a months time my condition could be a whole lot worse.

I mean I could do it and see what it looks like and/or continu with it until I've got a decision from them and hopefully it won't be needed but it could be back up.

Many thanks

Any information you submit should be supportive of your claim, so if you are going through one of your better phases at the moment, it may not be the best time to start a diary, having said that, it is important to give a full picture of your health, especially when it is variable, so maybe you can start it, but not return it until you have gone through a complete "cycle", good to bad to good, even if it means that a Decision is made before you actually send it in, it can always be used for your ESA.

As a general rule, send in additional information as soon as it is available, the DWP are not known for their patience and whilst they may wait a few weeks for these letter, they may not wait much longer.

Don't fall into the trap of reporting only your bad days either as this can lead to later accusations of fraud!
