Hi

I hope the mods do not mind me asking a question which has been preying on my mind. I am in the SG and receive contribution and IR ESA at the moment.

I am currently in the process of re-assessment. If I should not get back into the SG but be put in the WRAG (do not want to worry about losing ESA altogether at this point) what would happen to my ability to claim free prescriptions as I understand I would only be able to claim contribution based ESA for 365 days and then would have to try and claim IR ESA in WRAG, unless I was successful in appealing or had another re-assessment in the meantime and got back into the SG.

It occurred to me today that I would not be able to afford to pay for all my medications if I no longer received them for free. I know it sounds silly but my medication is a lifesaver and I could not function without it. Sorry if this is trivial but it is worrying me a lot.

MCW

Just to be clear for anybody reading this, being in the Support Group does not entitle you to free prescriptions, etc., claimants may be eligible to receive an Income Related ESA top-up due to the addition of the Enhanced Disability Premium.

So, if you were placed in the WRAG and lost the ESA(IR) top-up you would lose your access to free prescriptions, then there are a couple of other options, you may be eligible to free prescriptions due to low income, see

www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/1125.aspx

If you do not qualify for this then you can get a Prescription Prepayment card for £104 for 12 month which covers all of your prescription costs for that year.

Hi

Thank you Gordon, that is what I thought as on the prescription form it states Income Related ESA only and being a member of this site as I am I know that WRAG is contribution based. However if you exhaust your 365 day period and then apply for income related WRAG does your entitlement for free prescriptions resume again?

As long as there is an Income Related element to your payments then you are entitled to free NHS care.
