Hi, I’m sorry if the question has been asked before. I’m trying to decide if it’s worth me asking for an award review as I’m nearly 65. I’m currently on pip standard rate on daily living and mpnothing on mobility, I’ve done a couple of self reviews and my points show that I should be receiving enhanced on daily living and standard on mobility, at my last review that I requested 2yrs ago as my conditions had worsened and I had evidence of arthritis in my knees, hands and ankles, my award stayed the same rather than being increased. I’ve now gone through my local council and they have given me a blue badge which is a god send.
I’m worried if I ask for a review I will lose my award altogether as I’m approaching 65 next month(feb) and then not be able to appeal if the time scale takes me to pension age 66.

Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to tell. There is a backlog and we know that they are prioritising new claims. It will depend on whether they do a paper-based assessment or invite you to a telephone or video or face to face assessment. (Telephone is the most common). If they don't do a paper-based assessment it will then also depend on the availability of assessors where you live. (There is no information available on that). There are people who have heard within six weeks, but for many it has been much, much longer.

The issue you have with a blue badge is a common one and there is little you can do these days as the DWP has been reluctant to confirm that a claimant's PIP might continue until they have proof. Some people have applied directly to their council.

Sorry I couldn't reassure you - but the reality is that we just don't know the timescales.

I had my review form for pip me and my husband filled it in lots of the same letters scans results and another letter of my dr i have a life long condition was just wondering how long are the reviews taking has my blue badge will be up in June and waiting is so stressful thankyou .

I sent my review of my PIP back in February 2024. A few months later I rang for an update and was told it would take a year if not longer to process. Also that they would send me a letter in November extending my claim for a year!

I received the letter in November saying it had been extended, then two days later received another letter with the outcome of the review. I'd kept my high rate mobility and was one point away from high rate care (That was a change from my original claim as before I was three points away)

The award has been given for 5 years.

The wait was stressful especially as I had to renew my blue badge during the time that I was waiting for the outcome.
Therefore had to apply not using my benefit proof which made that harder than it would of been

I wrote about 4/5 hours ago and seem to have lost the post I asked help on.
I just need some advice on the SR1 Form and Standard PIP Form.
My wife was diagnosed with Stage III lung cancer yesterday when we met with her Oncologist and MacMillan nurse.
Due to the size of the tumour, the fact she has an entire collapse of the lung and mass in the airway and the fact they cannot operate or carry out radiation, they are unsure how long she may have to live with just chemotherapy. The Macmillan nurse said she would qualify for PIP under Special Rules and not to worry as they will sort out the paperwork and also a blue badge for her.
This afternoon, out of the blue we got a call from Citizens Advice who basically said we had to apply for a PIP form from DWP. I said surely the SR1 Form meant she did not have to fill out the standard form and also the SR1 was filled out by medical professionals and sent direct to the DWP so why would we need to apply for the 50 page PIP form? He said the guy from Citizens Advice who normally did the paperwork was on holiday and back in the new year so he was just getting the ball rolling and I needed to contact DWP on my wife's behalf. I really am confused. Should I go back to MacMillan nurses or should I contact DWP. I really do not want to get involved in this as I know the SR1 form is for those diagnosed with less than 12 months to live and I know just how awful the standard PIP format is and the process you have to go through hence my lack of wanting to be involved. Surely between medical staff and Citizens advice this could be sorted without dragging us into the equation.... Any help is appreciated.

I thought I would share my review times with you. My last review in 2020 was for 5 years ending in April 2025
. Got my “your review has started” text at the end of November 2023. That’s a good 18 months before my review ended.
I had to send my review in by Christmas Day! I phoned and got an extension but still managed to send it all before 31/1/24
Then nothing expect for 3 monthly texts saying “we are still looking at your award”
I missed a phone call from DWP at the beginning of November 2024, they didn’t phone back
I then got a new award letters which must have been a paper review until 2028. The text on the letter was all copied and pasted from my last award so someone had an easy day looking at my forms! I did follow all the guidance on here and sent a lot of evidence.
Reviews see, to be taking anbout a year for many people and I was actually quite glad they reviewed mine early as I had no problems with my blue badge renewal! Good luck

I hope someone can give me some advice. Unfortunately following many tests/scans, my wife has been diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. She is quite poorly and we only saw the consultant oncologist yesterday along with one of the MacMillan nurses. She cannot have surgery or radiation and will commence chemotherapy in the new year. Our MacMillan nurse told us at the end of the meeting my wife would be eligible for PIP and she would sort out an SR1 submission and Blue badge for her. I came off the phone about half an hour ago completely confused. We had just taken a call out of the blue from Citizens Advice telling us to apply to the DWP for a PIP form by phoning them. He told us he had an SR1 form at the office but also need us to get a standard PIP form. I was under the impression the only form needed was an SR1 form which was filled in by doctors and MacMillan nurses and would not require both forms. Please can you advise because the chap from Citizens Advice sounded a bit unsure and we were also under the impression they would be filling in and submitting forms for both PIP and a Blue Badge. Hello everyone. I was wondering if you could answer this question. If I ring the PIP people for a letter of entitlement would this trigger anything. My blue badge expires early next year, does this letter have to be issued in the same year I wonder?. I have about 3 years left before my soft touch from PIP. Thank you and seasons greetings to everyone.

My PIP runs out October 2025 and I am due a review. I’ve had no forms through where I normally get my review forms the year before it runs out. I’ve called the PIP enquiry line just to be told there’s a backlog.

My blue badge will run out just before the end of my PIP October next year. I’ve heard that people are losing blue badges etc because DWP are behind on PIP reviews.

Are there any other members who have not received there review forms and have any advise on delays to PIP review paperwork and difficulty renewing blue badge during delayed review process.

Might be worth asking your GP for a letter as proof, and maybe see about joining a CBT group about your anxiety, and then you'll have appointment letters, and additional evidence from them. When I attended my CBT, I told them that under no circumstances could I face doing this in a group, and they allowed me a weekly phone call of one hour, and a once per month appointment with a trained specialist alone. You can also use supporting evidence from friends/family who know what you experience. You could also try your local Citizens Advice and tell them you feel victimised by your local authority, as I believe it's them who run the blue badge team. It is with my local council based in the North East.

"Although you report becoming extremely anxious due to your medical condition (asthma), you have not provided evidence that the distress of walking during journeys results in a severe anxiety state in which your symptoms are so severe that you cannot undertake the journey without being overwhelmed. The threshold is very high—a claimant who is anxious, worried, or emotional does not meet it. Additionally, the provided evidence does not indicate that you experience psychological distress while walking during journeys."

can anyone please help and guide how to counter this argument and which evidence does they require on top of medical records which were already submitted.

I believe it's down to the discretion of your own local authority and what you possibly claim PIP for. I had 10 points for Mobility for the part where I need someone to accompany me to places but was denied online a blue badge for not having another factor. Just to let you know that my wife had tried twice to get PIP for her Fibromyalgia , after reading your guides she managed to get her PIP at the lower rate , better than nothing , previously she had tried to get a Blue badge for herself that took three goes all ok now , and thank you again for your guides , keep up the good work.

After 1 year of waiting after submitting my PIP review the DWP gave themselves another year to complete the process. At the last moment (whilst I was completing my local council’s own Blue Badge application online I received a new certificate in the post extending my award for another year! So you may well get this right at the date that your Blue Badge runs out. If not then use the information that you have already used for yourPIP review to apply via your local council’s own Blue Badge scheme.
This delay also affected my Motability Car ‘hire’ as it was due to be replaced at that date - it has now been extended for that extra year too.
The official reason given for these delays is that New Claimants are being prioritised and there has been a big surge in New Claimants’ numbers since the Pandemic.

Thank you.My issue now is my blue badge is is up for renewal in December & my council have chsnged the criteria .Now they wont renew unless have a year at least left of my pip award.I need the blue badge most days.

Anyhow, you are right Birmingham Live News is misleading and appears geared up to demonise claimants and cause unnecessary stress for them.

I was wondering what would happen with passes, my partner has one & it will expire soon too. I’ll report back if they extend it, but I’m not expecting them to. He has a blue badge, but he wouldn’t be able to drive now.

I mentioned my worry about my blue badge expiring to my GP and he said he would recommend and sign any paperwork to renew my blue badge. I do have a bus pass but I don’t really use it. I also have a car park exemption from our local council so that will probably be my challenge!

I had a similar problem. I got round it by just applying for my blue badge without pip, just need the medical eveidence. Sometimes DWP send out a letter saying you have an extension for a year, but for mine they would not issue it until 30 DAYS before my claim was due to end .
