TOPIC: PIP Updating DWP?

PIP Updating DWP? 1 week 5 days ago #239951

Currently I am on Enhanced Daily Living and Standard Mobility for PIP due to mental health issues. These past 2 weeks I have been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Chronic Kidney Disease and Chronic Gout from blood tests also I have have seen specialists. I'm wondering if to notify the DWP of this change? I was last reviewed in 2018 and passed that assessment with a new review due in January 2021. Any help is much appreciated.

Hi Housebound

Generally, the only time the DWP is interested in learning about a change to a claimant's condition is if they have improved. For new conditions to be taken account, a claimant needs to have been experiencing them for at least three months. If you choose to tell them now, it will be treated as a 'change of circumstances' and will automatically trigger a review now. Some people choose to wait until their next review to tell the DWP about new conditions. I cannot tell you what to do here. You also need to consider whether they would currently have an impact on the level of your award.

I'd say they would have an impact on the mobility part of the PIP due the Rheumatoid Arthritis. But as you said if telling them that would automatically trigger another review it might not be worth it. I did get 10 points in mobility part but is it worth risking a review for 2 more points to be accepted on the higher level of mobility??

Hi Housebound

Only you can decide whether you want to do that now or wait until your review, which is likely to happen half-way through next year.
