So sorry to hear this.

The first thing to ask for is a DS1500 to be completed by her GP or someone treating her. I'm sorry if this is insensitive but is a medical statement that death is expected in less than six months and will allow her to be immediately passported onto certain benefits without assessment.

If she is under State Retirement age then she can make a claim for PIP and should receive an Enhanced Daily Living award, she will have to be assessed for the Mobility component.

If she has a minimum of 50 weeks of Class 1 or Class 2 NI Contributions in the Tax Years 2016-17 and 2017-18, she can make aa Claim for New Style ESA and be placed in the Support Group immediately.

If not then you may be able to make a claim for Universal Credit, subject to your earnings in which case she would be placed in the LCWRA group.

In all cases make sure it is clear that she is claiming under "Special Rules".
