TOPIC: DLA applied for PIP as co diction changed

DLA applied for PIP as co diction changed 5 days 6 hours ago #241364

I went for an ESA assessment and was only there for 23 minutes. I received my letter to say I had been kept in the support group for a further 3 years. I have been getting DLA mobility only but was scared to apply for the care component in case I lost my mobilty car. I phone PIP and told them my condition had changed and I received and sent back my PIP form which they have received. I enclosed the report from my ESA assessment from 7 weeks previous also the form my doctor completed for my ESA assessment, I also sent in loads of pages of how my condition affects me. I was just wondering if these forms from my ESA assessment would help my PIP claim. Anyone

Hi Lynn

Although PIP and ESA have some overlap - the criteria can be quite different - so how much they will take note of your ESA assessment depends on the assessor and whether you showed the relevance to its inclusion in your claim for PIP

As BIS says Lynn, the criteria are different. My PIP assessor would not look at my ESA paperwork as they are different benefits. I have now been awarded PIP, standard for both components. My car will be going back after Christmas (I had high rate dla mobility) but have taken steps to ensure I remain mobile. I have now got a free bus pass and the money I save in petrol can be used for taxi's when necessary. I was struggling with the car anyway, having to pay to have it valeted and disabled parking bays are not always available. I use a walker with a chair so I can rest when needed. My vision is impaired and I'm losing the use of one leg slowly so driving isnt going to be an option anyway for much longer. My advice would be to gather as much evidence as you can (as recent as possible)..dwp love evidence to support claims.
