Pip appeal help needed 2 months 1 week ago #251362

Hi Ms

Understand that the assessor is offering an opinion when they say that you can do the PIP activities, tackling these head-on is unlikely to be successful, you need to show that the basis of that opinion is founded on incorrect information, so try and refer to your evidence to undermine what they have said. Below I have added some examples claimants have stated when describing the difficulties they have in preparing a meal.

If you can't cut up vegetables, you say why not.

1, Because of frequent bouts of dizziness you are only able to sit down for a few minutes (try and say what few is). and then you need to go and lay down.
2. Handling knives is impossible because of the lack of grip and safety issues and the real danger of hurting yourself, which is why someone else does all the cooking. (Remind them again here that when you are alone you only have cold food to eat.)
3. Because of the lack of grip you are unable to move pans, as you would drop them. You don't have the balance of strength.
4. Nor could you take a ready meal and put in in the microwave (you need to say why you can't do this - balance, grip, dizziness, lifting something out - the danger of burning and hurting yourself, being unable to stand).
5. You also need to say why you cannot sit on a perching stool (because of the dizziness, vertigo).

This is how you need to tackle each descriptor, break it down into components, check out our guides they are very well written. www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

Did you make it clear that the breathlessness limits the distance that you can walk?

Did you document this in your claim form? If you did then this is something to draw the DMs attention to.

Ms
hi again. I think you are so stressed you are overlooking the info given to help you. You really need to to take a deep breath, relax as much as you can, we all know that is hard to do, clear your thoughts and make those bullet points.Time is flying by and you are just getting yourself more and more muddled.

You say you do not get help from anyone, you do not have to have the actual help, not getting the help you need does not stop you from getting PIP. Try and give your examples of how all the things you do each day make your life painful and miserable and why that is. Use the examples given to your question by Gary, people on here, the guides or my example, you could use what I put earlier in the thread but use it for each thing you cant do or have problems doing.

The only way you are going to get this done is to start doing those bullet points and for each one just a couple of sentences will be fine then you can put everything over as you want to later when asked. I remember writing, I was in so much pain and so breathless putting my support stockings on I just gave up and laid back on the bed, I had had enough and reached my breaking point, my arms were too weak, my spine was on fire muscles in spasm, I couldn't bend to reach my feet, i couldn't breath etc etc, I tried to link what i have just written to the functional tasks we are asked about, so for me I used that as part of the getting dressed if I remember correctly, its a while ago now. I clearly showed I had immense difficulty performing that task each and every day and I needed help to do it safely, regularly and in a timely way.

Please Ms try and relax a little and get those bullet points on paper as soon as possible, I know how it feels, we all do, its horrid and we go blank. You must make a start, do not worry about the report, it is only another persons view of your restrictions, do not take precious time dwelling on an assessment report that does not matter. This is your time to tell the DWP/Tribunal how your day really is, make it clear and simple, make them stand in your shoes. Please come back and tell us you have started those bullet points or even better have done them. I know you can do this, we are all willing you on.
