Transfer from IS to ESA with a cancelled medical was created by clivenick58
after submitting my claim for the transfer from IS to ESA last September has in fact been a long wait. I was told via a letter with an appointment on 7th July to go for a medical to Birmingham which is over an hour away and in my condition was not going to happen. So, I telephoned them to enquire and they said its wheelchair accessible and parking was around the corner with the use of a blue badge. At that I telephoned the Job Centre who said I can ask for a home visit. So I called them back and asked for the home visit. The reply was I need a letter from my GP out lining the reason then it would be looked at again, (after spending £10 for my medical records to send to them which they obviously ignored) and for me to phone them back 2 days later to see what the out come is. 2 days later I called and they said they had not received the fax from my GP. Round in a circle I phoned the GP who said it was sent 09.30. On the Monday. Thursday I had a phone call from ATOS stating I did not need a medical as my forms etc had been reviewed and would get a call from the Job Centre with the out come around 2 weeks. Approx 2 weeks later I had a call from the Job Centre stating I had full ESA and placed in the support group and a letter would follow. Nothing in the letter to state when I am due another test. All this in a matter of 3 weeks, and a good answer from ATOS.
So the real reason for this is to thank the Benefits and Work for their help with my claim with the information which is provided on this web site.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Clive, that's great news! Thanks for letting us know and for your kind words about B+W
ESA is actually an indefinite award that can be assessed at any time as long as 3 months have passed since the decision. In practice, the DWP usually set a time period after which your claim will be reassessed. However, this does not form part of the decision and is only adviisory.
If you wish to know when to expect reassessment you can phone DWP and ask for the 'prognosis' which should be on the computer screen. You can also request a copy of the paperwork associated with your claim, this should also include the prognosis. Although you did not have a medical, this FAQ will still be pertinent.
ESA medical – what forms to ask for?
AS you are in the Support Group there is no time-limit on payment.
