Claming PIP for schizophrenia was created by Jane
My sister has been sectioned three times and been in receipt of benefits for over 35 years. Because she has not engaged with the mental health services for over ten years and does not believe herself to be ill. She is deeply paranoid and greatly fwears being sent back to a psychiatric hospital for compulsosry treatment. She will not take the anti psychotic medication that has been prescribled in the past. She will not attend a PIP assessment meeting or agree to a home visit. She has no insight into her condition and is deluded about the source of her income (benefits only). I am unable to persuade her of the consequences, in terms of lost benefit, if she does not agree to meet with an assessor. She is extremely reclusive and has no social contacts apart from me. I am desperate to know what I can do to prevent the loss of disability benefit that she has received from her mid 20s. She is now 62. Please help.

Is she being reviewed at the moment?

Are you her appointee? If not then I would seriously consider your doing this. See

www.gov.uk/become-appointee-for-someone-claiming-benefits

It is possible for assessment to be done without the claimant being send. Does she have a GP and would they be willing to write about her problems?
