ESA renewal mess

ESA renewal mess was created by Gordon Cameron
I hope someone on here could shed a bit of light to what my wife is going through to renew her ESA.

She is getting ESA Support Group & has been for a number of years.

In July she sent her renewal claim form back in time, then she got an appointment for a medical to attend on August 2nd.

When I took her to the medical at a jobcentre, we were told that they had been trying to contact my wife to tell her that her medical was cancelled & not to attend, their reason was that my wife's paperwork was elsewhere & being reviewed by a panel.

Great we thought, thinking that they would make their minds up without putting my wife through the dreaded medical again.

Time went on, she heard nothing from them, but the payments kept going in, so we wondered if the post & got lost., so left it alone.

Yesterday, now well into December, I rang the DWP for my wife quering the ESA3 form she had got, I made the error of asking about my wifes ESA claim going back over 4 months.

The lady, who was actually very helpful couldn't find anything about it & said she would get another department to ring back, which they did.

My wife was then told that she didn't have to go to the medical in August as the paperwork wasn't at the jobcentre, but she didn't say why, even though we were told why when she attended.back in August.

She went on to say that the office in Leeds dealing with her claim has now sent the paperwork to the jobcentre & my wife will be sent a letter to attend a medical, after 17 weeks since the last one was cancelled.

My wife suffers terrible migraines & anxiety problems, so this has just made things worse, bad enough wondering over more than 4 months what has happened & now this bombshell.

This we feel is a disgusting way to treat people & we wonder if there is anythying we can do to avoid the medical, especially after we were told in August that a panel was renewing her paperwork.

I want to make an official complaint about this dragging on so long & my wife getting different information.

Has anyone any ideas on how we could take things further? or even addresses or email addresses to complain to?

Thanks

I'm afraid it is down to Maximus as to whether a face to face is required or not and even if they were looking at it to see whether a Paper Based Review could be done, it doesn't mean that they were committed to doing one.

There are also considerable delays in the ESA assessment process at the moment which could easily account for the 17-week wait although I not suggesting that this is acceptable.

Re your complaining, have a look at the following

www.chdauk.co.uk/contact-us

A PBR can only be done if the assessor believes that they have sufficient information to make a recommendation to the DWP, if an interview has been booked then they are saying that they do not and you will need to find a way to provide them with the missing information. Would her GP be willing to communicate with Maximus?

Thanks for your help, the GP has been good in the past, so it's worth a try.
