re-assesment timeframe was created by darrenay
hi everybody,
just wandering how long people have got to wait for before being re-assesed after they get into support group or wrag, i telephoned my benefits office dealing with my esa claim as they had lost all info about my assesment, they told me everything was sorted out and i would not have to be re-assesed for 3 years. i was just wandering if anybody has the same sort of timeframe regarding re-assesment.all i seem to find is that most people are being re-assesed after 6 months or a year.
best regards darren

Hi DN,

Awards of ESA can be 3,6,9,12,18,24 Months, or "In the longer term".

If they say that they have lost all your information, there may be Data Protection Act issues.

Further, have you taken into account that if they say that they have lost your information, how do they know that your expected re-assessment period will be 3 years?

It really is advisable to get written confirmation.

You may wish to complain regarding the potential loss of your personal data, see here :

Complaining to the DWP

You may wish to involve your M.P. as well, from here :

thanks for that bro58, never even entered my mind about data protection issues, they told me that a letter would be put in the post, so we'll wait and see. also the bloke told me that my esa would start on 19th dec when my assesment was done on 21st september and i recieved a phone call from st helens 2 weeks later telling me that i was in the support group. it was then 7 weeks later that i phoned esa up because i had not recieved any letters of confirmation, that is when they told me that they did not have any info on me. ten mimutes later i get a call again from st helens telling me that plymouth had totaly messed up and that they are sorry and everything had now been put right.she told me that everything would be backdated to my claim date, so why has this bloke told me it will start on 19th dec???.

Hi DN,

As you will understand I can't comment on the personal detail of the issue.

For information on what documentation to request with regards to your "prognosis", (expected length of award before re-assessment), see here :

Re your phone call who knows why you were given that information. All we can advise is in your situation, you can make a complaint about the service if you wish.
