I have just migrated and awaiting my first statement on 8th July.
I am seeing lots of people that have migrated from Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) to Universal Credit (UC) now being charged for council tax, when they got full support under ESA.
I have learnt that it’s up to individual councils to decided if you have to start paying towards it, and you will not know about your council has received your statement.
If this is their policy and not lawful, can they enforce it, especially on vulnerable people with disabilities that are already struggling?
I understand we can ask for dhp but b that’s not along term solution.
Can we fight this please, as alot of people are now seriously in financial trouble due to this change.
Whenever a system changes the unscrupulous hide behind it to make changes to their own advantage even at the expense of the disabled. Here is further information shared on Rightsnet with me--
