Increases to the National Minimum Wage, higher limit permitted work and carers allowance permitted earnings came into effect from 1 October 2007.

The new National Minimum Wage rates are:

Main rate for adults aged 22 and over - £5.52
Development rate for 18 - 21 year olds - £4.60
Development rate for 16 -17 year olds - £3.40

The permitted work earnings limit has increased to £88.50.

The earnings limit for carers allowance has increased to £95.

The relevant Benefits and Work factsheets have been updated to take the rises into account.
